Men docked for allegedly damaging police van
Lagos – Three men were arraigned on
Tuesday in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly damaging the
windscreen of a police patrol vehicle. The defendants – Alex Olotu (39), Joseph
Owuna (25), and Azeez Salawu (28)- are facing a four-count charge bordering on
conspiracy, assault and destruction. They were alleged to have committed the
crime in contravention of sections 409, 166, 172 and 348 of the Criminal Law of
Lagos State, 2011. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges and an
application was made for their bail. In a ruling, the Magistrate, Mr. A. J.
Adegun, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N50,000 each with one
surety each in like sum. He adjourned the case till April 18, for trial.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, told the court that the defendants
on March 27, conspired and damaged the patrol van with registration number KRD
564 AC. He said the alleged crime committed at Abimbola St., Morikas Agege, the
defendants threw bricks and broke the windscreen of the van valued at N150,000.
Donny said that the defendants also pelted a police superintendent, Isiyaku
Daura, who challenged them.
