Before we continue, note these terms:
·
An Advertiser: An
advertiser can be a company selling a product like electronics, airline
tickets, clothing or car parts, or an advertiser could also be an insurance
company selling policies. The most important thing to remember is that you are
an advertiser if you are ready to pay other people to help you sell and promote
your business.
·
A Publisher: A
publisher is an individual or company that promotes an advertiser’s product or
service (by publishing it on his/her medium/site) in exchange for earning a
commission. Advertisers contractually agree to work with a publisher, then
provide the publisher with creative – in the form of links, banner or text ads
or even unique phone numbers – that the publisher incorporates into their
website.
- · The Consumer: The consumer is the one who actually sees the ad and then makes an action (either by clicking a link or by submitting their information via a form) that takes them from the publisher’s website to the advertiser’s to complete the action, which we call a conversion. The consumer is the final component that completes the affiliate relationship triangle.
1. Pay Per Click/ Pay Per Impression
Advertising
This is one of the most popular pay per performance/ pay per
action. Here, the advertiser pays the publisher every time a visitor clicks on
the advertiser’s ad on the publisher’s site-whether they buy the product or
not. It does not matter how many times
the ad appears on the site; the publisher only gets paid when a user clicks on
the link displayed on his/her site.
The best example of Ad networks is Google AdSense. It allows
publishers (which includes YouTubers, Bloggers and other website owners) to tap
into Google’s immense advertising network so that other advertisers can run ads
on their sites.
Once you sign up, Google will place a simple code on your
website that will identify the content of your site and start displaying
relevant advertisements. For example, if your site is about pets (dogs &
cats), Google AdSense will start showing your visitors ads for cat food, dog
training and more.
You get paid each time someone clicks on the ad. The best part
about this system is how simple everything is.
Your cut might be anywhere from $0.50 to $5 per click. However,
when your site has enough traffic, you can make enough dollars each month.
How to apply for for Google Adsense?
Apply for AdSense – Before applying, make sure you keep
up with their latest Terms Of Service, though. Google has very strict rules, so
it’s hard to get (and stay) approved.
2. Pay Per Impression/ Cost Per
Impression
This Cost Per Action (CPA) is typically based on a “cost per
1000impressions.” One ad appearance is one impression.
Here, the advertiser pays the publisher for the number of times
the advertiser’s banner ads, text links, e-mail spam or opt-in e-mail
advertising appears on the publisher’s site. The publisher is being paid
regardless of whether anyone clicks on the ad. Your payment depends on how many
visitors you get. Typically, this is
quoted as a dollar amount per
one thousand impressions (or CPM).
So for example, you might see it as: $5 CPM. If your website
gets 200,000 visits a month, that ad price translates into $5*200,000/1,000 = $1000.
The good thing about this approach is that if your site gets a
ton of traffic from different sources, your simple banner ad pricing can go up
to as high as $5000 per month! However, the obvious downside is that if your
site doesn’t get a lot of traffic, you can’t expect to earn as much either.
3. Sell Your Own (Digital) Product (Example: E-book)
You have the potential to make the most money on a per sale basis when you can sell your own directly.
That’s because there’s no middle-man or person in between you and the buyer that’s taking a ‘cut’ from the money earned.
This approach seems fairly straightforward because you can simply sell these products directly through your website and get paid immediately.
Creating good products that are well made and polished require a ton of time and additional resources (like design, content, etc.). These are few things you should know if you want to be selling your own products: how to create and go about producing your product, payment gateways and how to use them (how are you going to collect payment?), also you should know about shipping (how are you going to mail or distribute the products?) and taxes.
4. Sell Ad Space
Incorporating Google’s AdSense on your website is just one way
to make money from online advertisements.
The other common method when selling ad space directly from your
website is a simple direct
price.
Another is to simply sell your own ad space directly to
companies looking to sponsor different blogs. For example, you can come up with
a price for each space, like: “Sidebar banner
ads will cost $xxx per month”.
Here you simply name a price (based on what you think it’s worth, relative
to what your competitors might be charging), and get paid upfront at the
beginning of each month.
Where can I let others know that my website is selling ad space?
You may not how to connect with companies out there for them to advertise
on your site, below are sites through which you will be connected with direct
companies. Through these sites, you will come across many companies.
- BuySellAds – This is the
most popular one.
