World champions Germany secured a first confederation cup title after a 1 – 0 victory over Chile in Sundays final in St Petersburg.
The Chilean team started brightly and wasted a lot of goal-scoring chances but were a goal down in the 20th minute when Borussia Monchengladbach forward Stindl tapped home against the run of play after a defensive blunder midway through the first half.
The final was a highly entertaining final, but Chile would really be disappointed to come away with nothing.  A terrible error from Marcelo Diaz cost them the game, as well as their inability to make their dominance count in the first half.
The German’s deserve some credit nevertheless, the team were young and inexperienced, yet, they came to this competition with huge expectations as World Champions and they still delivered.
